Letter from Nahray b. Nissim, in Fustat, to Abū l-Surūr Faraḥ b. Ismāʿīl b. Faraḥ, in Būṣīr. Providing instructions about purchases to be made in Būṣīr with details about multiple purses of money, totaling 120 dinars. Encourages him to remain in Būṣīr and "take it easy" (takūn khafīf al-ẓahr wa-turīḥ nafsak) rather than toiling in the village (ḍayʿa). He should continue to gather flax little by little. A courier arrived from Alexandria but did not bring any letter from the addressee's father. Nahray understands that the addressee is working in packing (ḥazm) and has not had time to make purchases for al-Kohen or for his paternal uncle. Says that the addressee is not at fault in the matter of Yosef. He acknowledges that the addreseee has been working very hard in a "year of difficulties" (shidda). As for the matter of the decree (sijill), Nahray says he continues to work on the matter daily, asking Ibn Shaʿyā for help. Ibn Shaʿyā says that the Ṣāḥib al-Dīwān says that he will not write 200(?) letters to the qāḍī until he receives a rescript (tawqīʿ) for his employment in the district (al-istikhdām fī l-nāḥiya). Nahray has received letters from Tyre, with the news that the merchants' shipments have gone out safely, and that the Qāḍī provided storage for all the shipments, only charging fees if they chose to sell. A galley (shīnī) arrived from Mazara to Alexandria at the end of Ḥeshvan. On verso goes on to discuss business matters with Ibn Muʾmil, Abū l-Ṭāhir the broker (simsār). Nahray has sent with the captain of the ship of al-Sharīf many letters, and with Ibn Nasṭās letters from Zekharya Ibn al-Ashqar, including a letter from Abū ʿImrān Mūsā from his brother.
