The letter was sent from Alexandria to Fustat.

Letter

The writer of the letter (Ephraim b. Isaac) owns several apartments in Alexandria and rents one to Nahray, who has heard rumors that Ephraim is loaning out Nahray's books. The writer admits to loaning two books, but only after receiving a signed receipt. He has business ties with the recipient and mentions selling vinegar. The writer received Nahray's letter aboard a ship just before departure and quickly wrote back on a reused Arabic receipt dating back to 4 March 1051 CE. He also asks about his sick female cousin.

Donated in 1898 by Charles Taylor and Solomon Schechter as part of the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Collection.
