“May my God remember me for good, and all that I have done in this commentary on the Book of Psalms. I, Benjamin Azai, son of the worthy Rabbi Elijah ʿEẓ, from the city of Ferrara, of the Canarotti family, wrote it for the worthy Rabbi Solomon the physician, may his light shine, son of the worthy Rabbi Benjamin the physician, of blessed memory, here in the city of Bisi. May the Lord grant him, and us, to study it—he and his descendants, and we and our descendants and the descendants of our descendants—and the rest of His holy Torah; and may He fulfil in us the verse that says: ‘For it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of his seed.’
And may He prosper our ways, as it is written: ‘For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.’ And its completion was in the year 5392 from the creation of the world [1631/32], on Thursday, the twelfth day of the month of Elul.
And may God, who alone rose above all that was created, who exists eternally, without change or corruption, purify our souls from every defilement and impurity, and let us see the rebuilding of His House, a high and lofty mountain. May He guide us along a straight path and a clear way, to the city of His sanctuary and our glory, with songs of praise. And in our days may He send to Zion the Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts, the Holy One of Israel.
And may my portion with the lawgiver be hidden among those who justify the many, who shall shine like the stars for ever and ever. Amen, Selah.
Be strong, Benjamin the scribe; may you see offspring and live long.
By the decree of God, King who lives eternally. Blessed is the Name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever. Amen.” (102b).
